Hepatitis B

Is there a vaccine to help protect against hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B vaccines are currently available to help protect patients against the infection caused by the hepatitis B virus.

RECOMBIVAX HB® [hepatitis B vaccine (recombinant)] is indicated for immunization against infection caused by the hepatitis B virus.

Vaccination with RECOMBIVAX HB® is recommended in persons of all ages, especially those who are at increased risk of infection with hepatitis B virus (for details, see above section “Who is at risk for hepatitis B?”). RECOMBIVAX HB®* will not prevent hepatitis caused by other agents, such as hepatitis A virus, non-A, non-B hepatitis viruses, or other viruses known to infect the liver. Persons with a history of hypersensitivity (allergies) to any of the components of the vaccine should not be vaccinated with RECOMBIVAX HB®.

*Hepatitis B vaccines are not indicated to prevent complications associated with hepatitis B.
