When we think about the benefits of exercise, several things immediately come to mind such as losing weight and having more energy. But did you know that our bones also benefit from exercise? In fact, the more active you are, the stronger your bones will be. People who exercise regularly – and have been doing so all their lives – usually have stronger bones than those who don't exercise regularly. But even if you fit into the latter category, don't be discouraged. It's never too late to start looking after your bones.
An exercise program doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming to provide benefits to your health. With a little planning, exercise can become a routine part of your daily life.
Who should exercise?
Anyone can start and benefit from an exercise program – no matter what your age or fitness level. If you're concerned about your osteoporosis, you're definitely in the right frame of mind to get active.
What should I do?
A combination of aerobic exercise, muscle strengthening, flexibility or stretching, and balance exercises will provide you with the right combination of activity to help you manage your osteoporosis.
Where can I go to work out?
A fitness club is a good place to start, but you can also exercise around your neighbourhood, or even in your own backyard.
When is a good time to exercise?
Exercise can be done any time, even for a few minutes. The important thing is to exercise frequently so that it becomes routine.
Why should I do it?
Because exercise makes you feel better and look better while improving your health.
