Managing HIV Disease: Getting the Most from Your Therapy

NNRTIs: Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors

IMAGE: NNRTI, NRTI and PI

The NNRTI group of drugs is fairly new in the battle against HIV. These medications must be used in combination with other anti-HIV drugs in order to remain effective.

Drugs within this group:

  • PrViramune® (nevirapine)
  • PrRescriptor® (delavirdine mesylate)
  • Pr Sustiva™ (efavirenz)

What NNRTIs do:

NNRTIs also block the actions of reverse transcriptase which HIV uses to reproduce itself. However, they work in a different manner from NRTIs.
