If you have had angina (chest pain) or a heart attack, you are at an increased risk and should see your doctor. But you do not have to have heart problems or symptoms to have increased risk. If you have high cholesterol and answer "yes" to two or more of the following questions, your risk is increased:

2. Are you a woman age 55 or older or past the age of menopause?
3. Did your father or brother die of heart disease before age 55?
Mother or sister before age 65?

4. Do you have a high LDL cholesterol level confirmed by a doctor?
5. Do you have, or are you being treated for, high blood pressure?
6. Do you smoke cigarettes?
7. Do you have diabetes?
8. Do you have a low HDL cholesterol level confirmed by a doctor?
